Kent
Kent is an area with excellent countryside, towns, villages and stretches of beautiful unspoiled coastline. Here you will find the towns of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Folkstone, Dover, Margate, Canterbury, Herne Bay, Maidstone and many other villages and places of interest. Not only can you enjoy and explore some of England's most breathtaking countryside and glorious coastline, there are thousands of acres of varied landscape from the open spaces of the South Downs to the Kentish Weald.
Kentish Weald is one of the most densely wooded parts of Britain and enjoys a host of wildlife, making it great for a day out to take a picnic a walk or a cycle in this woodland. Why not take a walk on the South Downs were this rugged coastline has a breathtaking backdrop of rolling chalkland and spectacular unspoiled views out to sea.
Kent is full of history and heritage, with ample of historical houses and castles to explore. Dover castle holds the strategic position over the White Cliffs of Dover; the site itself has been of military importance since the Roman times. Discover why Henry VIII rushed to Dover Castle and how a Royal Palace was constructed. There is also Walmer Castle, Deal Castle, Rochester castle, Upnor Castle and many more with their own colorful histories.
Kent also boasts her famous son Charles Darwin, visit his family home Down House, were he wrote 'Origin of Species". You can explore his study and see the actual chair he wrote this revolutionary piece from, plus wonder around the gardens and the 'Sandwalk', the "thinking path' were he to wondered to ponder and work out his ideas. However Kent has more than history to offer, there are many activities for everyone to enjoy, from sports pursuits to shopping.
Kent is simply a stunning area with an array of sceneries. Every were you turn you will be amazed, delighted or intrigued by its wonders and hidden treasures.
