Invernesse

Inverness itself lies at the top of the Great Glen Fault, which literally cuts this part of Scotland in half from Inverness to Fort William. The stunning landscape was created by the last ice age, which has created majestic glens and mountains. The town itself is nestled among some stunning scenery and a short journey by car will take you to some of the most stunning sites and views in Scotland. Inverness is a great central base to explore the whole area, from the shores of Loch Ness to the Maroy Firth to the majestic Glen Affric, plus many more amassing places to visit. You can explore the area by foot, cycling or by car to see some amazing countryside and wildlife, from dolphins, to seals and wild dear.
A short drive by car or a bus journey into the surrounding area can open up many amazing places to discover and things to explore. Culloden Battlefield is only a short drive from Inverness town center, the site of this famous battle can be explored in great detail. Why not take the Loch Ness Trail, which takes you around the shores of the great Loch, you might even see 'Nessie'. There are also many historical castles to discover were you can stand in the place of many famous and historical important people, from William Wallace to Mary Queen of Scots. To combine both Castle exploring and 'Nessie' watching, a visit to Urquhart Castle near Drumnadrochit is a must, the views across the Loch from the Castle shores are said to be the best for 'Nessie' watching. In Drumnadrochit you can also visit two Loch Ness exhibitions designed to explore the myth of 'Nessie'; one also includes original equipment used in some of the scientific searches.
Inverness is set in a land shaped by a colorful history and thriving culture that is reflected throughout the center and surrounding area. It is a great town, with plenty to entertain you what ever your interest or age. There is everything from historical castles and houses, great architecture, attractions to boating on the Loch Ness. Inverness is the capital of the highlands and has everything you would expect in facilities, fine restaurants ranging from traditional Scottish cuisine to world cuisine's. There are also many excellent pubs and bars were you are sure to enjoy a friendly greeting.
