Nottingham
The historical town of Nottingham and the county of Nottinghamshire are amazing to explore and discover. Nottingham has a colorful past of legends, castles and caves making it a delight underground as well as above. Plus there is a multitude of Heritage houses and gardens with their own unique beauty.
Nottingham has been home to many famous people from Robin Hood to D.H. Lawrence. Lawrence novels of 'Lady Chatterly's Lover', "Sons and Lovers', 'Women in Love', and 'The Rainbow' capture the area the best. The Lawrence Museum is a must for fans of the amassing novelist. For the followers of Robin Hood, the legendary hero, a trip to Sherwood forest will be a delight, were you will not only discover Robin and his merry men's hide away among the trees, but hear tales of the Green Man.
Nottingham is also home to another famous author J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan. Barrie lived and worked here on the 'Nottingham Journal'. While walking in Clifton Grove one day Barrie encountered a ragged child who is said to have inspired the character of Peter Pan. The Crimean cannons, lakes and island of the city's Arboretum Park became part of Barrie's imaginary "Neverland".
Nottingham is also legendary for its shopping and its nightlife, with over 1300 shops, over 200 restaurants and a multitude of Clubs, Pubs and Bars. There is no shortage of attractions and actions day and night.
The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking or cycling. Enjoy the gently rolling field and quiet woodlands, while taking time to explore the patch work quilts of the meadows and villages. The peaceful charm of Nottinghamshire is awaiting exploration, as well as the beautiful city of Nottingham.
